You're In Good Hands With Event Insurance
by Sasha Souza

Who needs another expense when planning a wedding? You may. For a few hundred dollars, you can purchase special event insurance which will protect you from liability and loss. While your venue may not require it, it would give you peace of mind if a lawsuit or property damage were to happen during your reception or event. If your venue does require you carry a special event rider with them named as additional insured, you can have the peace of mind to know that you won't start off your marriage in a court room over somebody who drank too much at your wedding and crashed into somebody's house.

If you live in an area where natural disasters happen often, you may want to purchase the insurance which will refund a portion of your deposits should you need to cancel or postpone your wedding (the postponement or cancellation needs to be beyond your control). It will also cover you if an immediate family member takes ill. The dollar amount of coverage is set by you... from $250,000 to millions of dollars.

Most coverage can include the following:

Liability insurance to protect against bodily injury, property damage or personal injury occurring at the reception.

Coverage for repair or replacement of rented property used for the reception, such as for tents, seating or cooking equipment.

Protection against physical loss or damage to special attire and gifts.

Reimbursement of expenses for reassembling key participants in case something goes wrong with the photographs, including coverage for videotape. Coverage to repair or replace jewelry.

Host Liquor Liability. If somebody drinks too much and crashes their car and injures somebody, you will not be held liable for service of alcohol to an obviously intoxicated individual.

The premiums start at around $195 and you can take out the coverage up to two years before the wedding date. For a detailed list of coverage, call 1-800-ENGAGED.
