Preserving Your Wedding Memories

They say all good things must come to an end. But, there are ways newlyweds can savor the memories from their wedding day. Here's some advice for keeping the cake, garter and Unity Candle intact for the future.

The Cake

The tradition of eating a piece of wedding cake on the first anniversary can be followed if proper steps have been taken before freezing it. That way you can have your cake and eat it too!

Encase the upper most layer securely in plastic wrap, then aluminum foil. Beware of using foil alone as it can leave the cake with a nasty, metallic taste. Store the cake in the back of the freezer where the temperature remains constant so the cake will retain its original flavor.

Bridal Garters

Purchase two identical garters. One to toss and the other to keep. It’s s simple piece of advice, but it is very effective!

Your Unity Candle

You celebrated your union with a unity candle. Why not make it a tradition to celebrate each anniversary with a candle light dinner using your unity candle? Oh, you want it to be a keepsake and you do not want it to melt and be gone forever. No problem!

When you first light your pillar Unity candle, let it burn for about 2 1/2 to 3 hours and extinguish it. You have just created a well large enough to house a tea light. Insert a tea light in the well. When you are ready to celebrate your anniversary, light the tea light and the original Unity candle will stay un harmed.
